Homework Time

Special teams are groups that promote esprit de corps, teamwork, and self-confidence.  It provides JROTC cadets a competitive program in mentally and physically challenging training events. Currently at Pahrump Valley High School, there are four special teams. Before any cadet joins the special team of their choice, they must complete a test in Unarmed Drill (UDT) and participate in Homework Time - a tutoring program offered by the program to help cadets with grades. Cadets on special teams must hold a GPA of at least a 2.5.

Practices are held Mondays - Thursdays at 2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Homework Time is a tutoring program held Mondays throught Thursdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Many cadets taking honors and AP classes are willing to help cadets with struggling classes in order to keep the battalion shining. Homework Time is held before Special Teams Practice and is mandatory to anyone on a Special Team.

Color Guard presents and maintains the flags. They do the most events out of all the special teams and while doing the events, get to meet people like Senators and heavy built weight lifters. They compete in competitions and make a ton of community service hours.

It builds confidence and character.  Character. Confidence. Leadership. That’s Army JROTC training. While nothing worthwhile is ever easy, uncovering the leadership qualities and personal skills already living within you pays off big time, both in the present – and in the future. JROTC helps you discover the quiet confidence and inner strength that make goals reality.

It’s like playing on a winning team.  Team work. That’s the feeling in JROTC. All members working together toward the same goals. A friendly push when you need it – a pat on the back when you deserve it. Then returning the favor. Because when one team member succeeds, the whole team does. It’s a different kind of peer pressure.

It’s more than a regular class.  While JROTC is given during regular high school hours, it is not taught like a regular class. Sure, you’ll learn the basics – history, government, technology awareness, and current events – but every lesson is geared toward building leadership and personal skills. You’ll understand how to motivate others, and strengthen your own ability to study, take tests, and interview for jobs. Real skills that you can  use after high school.
