MILITARY BALL

The JROTC holds an annual Military Ball at different venues around Nye County usually held around April. It is a formal ball where a guest speaker who was in the military comes and speak to the cadets. There is a traditional toast made, dinner is served, and then the dancing begins! The girls all dress in floor length ball gowns, and the men dress in their JROTC uniforms or suits and ties. It is a wonderful experience, and tickets only cost $20.00.

YOUTH SUMMER BOOT CAMP

The Youth Summer Boot Camp is an annual camp that JROTC participates in with the county. Cadets are assigned ACU's and come in on assigned mornings to teach other childeren how to march and how to do physical training (PT). Only cadets that have been chosen to lead in the summer boot camp may participate. At the end of the boot camp, there is an award ceremony for the graduating youth.

RAPID ACADEMIC GROUP EXERCISE - RAGE

Rapid Academic Group Exercise (RAGE) is an event that the battalion holds at the high school. It is a day long camp that teaches cadets academics, leadership, values, ect. through lessons, presentations by guest speakers, games, and more. The current RAGE Leader is C/CPT Kaomi Hoskins. In order to go to RAGE, you must sign up and fill out a permission slip. Only a certain number of cadets are allowed to go, so spots fill up fast! The cost of RAGE is $5.00 which goes toward buying lunch for the cadets. It is a ton of fun, you meet new people, and you gain a better knowledge of the program along with what it means to YOU to be a leader.

CADETS IN ACTION

Throughout the year, our cadets participate in many events including JCLC, community service, Military Ball, RAGE. and service learning projects.

Total hours of community service since 3 May 2013: 903 hours

Here are a few of the events we have been working on/have done.

It builds confidence and character.  Character. Confidence. Leadership. That’s Army JROTC training. While nothing worthwhile is ever easy, uncovering the leadership qualities and personal skills already living within you pays off big time, both in the present – and in the future. JROTC helps you discover the quiet confidence and inner strength that make goals reality.

It’s like playing on a winning team.  Team work. That’s the feeling in JROTC. All members working together toward the same goals. A friendly push when you need it – a pat on the back when you deserve it. Then returning the favor. Because when one team member succeeds, the whole team does. It’s a different kind of peer pressure.

It’s more than a regular class.  While JROTC is given during regular high school hours, it is not taught like a regular class. Sure, you’ll learn the basics – history, government, technology awareness, and current events – but every lesson is geared toward building leadership and personal skills. You’ll understand how to motivate others, and strengthen your own ability to study, take tests, and interview for jobs. Real skills that you can  use after high school.
